So Long, Utha Likumahuwa

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - One of popular singers Utha Likumahuwa (56) passed away at Fatmawati hospital here, at around 1.13 p.m. The younger brother of musician  Benny  Likumahuwa underwent surgery to remove the left part of his cranium to prevent his brain’s blood vessels from swelling and bursting following a stroke.

"We are still waiting for other relatives heading from Bandung before going to the hospital," said one of Utha Likumahuwa's relatives, Marianne Sahetapy living in Kranggan, Cibubur, a suburb of Jakarta, when confirming the death of musician by phone to Kompas.com. Marianne Sahetapy said other Utha's relatives living in the capital of west Java planned to see the body of singer this afternoon.

Words expressing sympathy over death of the musician were shown by his friends and other musicians, including Glen Fredly and Indra Lesmana.

"My big brother mas Utha Likumahuwa.. I'll always remember how wonderful human being you are. Love you deeply n may you now Rest In Peace," wrote Indra Lesmana in English mixed with the Javanese word meaning big brother.

Adoring Utha as his role model, the other vocalist, Glen Fredly, expressed his sorrow over the death.

"Today Indonesian music has lost one of its best singers Utha Likumahuwa..Rest in Love bung (big brother)! Your masterpieces will always sing..."

"My deepest condolences goes to @BarryLikumahuwa (Benny Likumahuwa's son) and family for the passing away of Bung Utha Likumahuwa. May his soul rests in peace ♥" wrote Glen Fredly in his condolence expressed in Indonesian and English. Eko Hendrawan Sofyan
