How George Clooney Contemplated Suicide

KOMPAS.com - George Clooney has revealed that he once seriously considered killing himself.

The actor said that whilst filming the 2005 drama Syriana he had a spinal injury that left him in such agony he thought about suicide. Lying in hospital feeling like he had suffered a stroke he thought: ‘I can’t exist like this. I can’t actually live’.

Clooney even worked out a way to kill himself - but backed out. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Clooney said that the back injury he sustained while filming Syriana was so bad that he started blowing spinal fluid out of his nose.

He tried drinking heavily but it was not enough to anaesthetise himself. The Ocean's Eleven star said: ‘I was at a point where I thought, "I can’t exist like this. I can’t actually live."

‘I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you’re having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, "I may have to do something drastic about this"... but I never thought I’d get there. See, I was in a place where I was trying to figure out how to survive.’

He added that the surgery has helped, but he still gets those headaches only just not as bad. In a wide-ranging interview the 50-year-old revealed that he lives up to his bachelor lifestyle by keeping dozens of crisp white shirts behind a glass case at his home.

He also keeps a baseball bat under his bed in case any intruders come his way. Clooney recently split up with model Elisabetta Canalis and is now said to be dating former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler.

He told Rolling Stone that he is very much a man and that he is the ‘least metrosexual cat you’ve ever met’.He reveals that he's never had his nails tended to, and that he cuts his own hair.

'On an awards-show day, I can play basketball, go in, take a shower and put on a tux – it takes me three minutes to put on a tux – and be out the door in 15 minutes,' he says.

Clooney also denied he had any rules for his girlfriends but refused to elaborate further. He said: ‘I might have a girlfriend, but I’m never going to talk about it. I get one thing to keep to myself.’
