Elopement Turns to be A Complicated Problem for Joy Tobing

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Joy Tobing's falling out with her family is getting more intense. The ex-Indonesian Idol singer deeply regrets the comments from her own mother, Roma Sibuea, who kept bringing up the issue that the man Joy Married, Daniel Sinambela, is a divorced man.

"Why must Daniel's past be brought up? It would've been better if they disagreed from the start. But, then when the wedding preparations were underway, Daniel's issue was brought up. My mom even said she wouldn't attend the wedding, and that she wouldn't give her blessing because Daniel already has two children," admitted Joy sadly at the Kuningan Suites, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, Wednesday.

Joy got married with Daniel on March 1, 2010, in a church in Jakarta. She underlined that she never stole Daniel from his ex-wife. "It should be straightened out that I never stole Daniel from his ex-wife. In October 2009, when I met Daniel he was single and in the process of divorce."

As reported, when they eloped and got married, Joy's family tried to stop them. Five of Joy's relatives called her out but they were prohibited from coming in and Joy of course wouldn't come out.

"There were 20 bodyguards. We called out for Joy, but she wouldn't come out. There were only five of us and they were outrageous. They broke Jeffry's glasses (Joy's younger brother), and got him by the neck and pepper-sprayed his eyes," claimed Roma Sibuea. "Joy's not that desperate, she's been brainwashed."

Joy regrets her mother's comments, one of which called Joy a home wrecker. "I was disappointed and sad with mom's statements. I didn't steal Daniel. Why should we fight just because of a status? What I did is a shortcut by marrying through the mangalua rite (eloping before the families reach an agreement)."

Despite not having the blessing from Joy's parents, Joy and Daniel are still trying to communicate to sway their opinions. "We're trying to settle it without any dispute. But we were only insulted. What's their point? As if the world ended if I marry a divorced man. He's a responsible man." (C9-09/C17-09)
